Welcome to Greater Brunswick Charter School (GBCS). We are a public charter school of choice serving New Brunswick, Highland Park, Edison and surrounding districts. In an effort to make the enrollment process easy to understand we have put together this information. Our goal is to maintain open communication with our parents and students, so please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

 

Please note: If your child is currently on the waiting list for the 2017 - 2018 school year you will need to submit a new application for the 2018 - 2019 school year. You will receive a new lottery number and position on the waiting list for the 2018 - 2019 school year via our lottery on January 9, 2018, at 6:00 PM.

 

Applications for the 2018-2019 school year will be available by October 12th, 2017 (our first Open House, 10:00 AM).  The deadline for submitting a lottery application in order to participate in the January lottery is December 18th, 2017. You are still welcome to apply to be added to our waiting list after this date, your application will be processed on a “first come, first serve basis.” Please follow the steps below to complete your application.

(Please note, if your child is not called within the 2017-18 school year,  you must reapply for  the following school year, make sure to contact us by October 12th, 2017 to receive information on the new deadlines to be able to participate in the lottery.)

Parents of an incoming Kindergarteners:

Children must be 5 years old by the “cutoff date" provided by your district of residence or home district for the school year that you are applying. It is also very important that families register their children in their home district and obtain a transfer card even though they will be attending GBCS in the fall.

Cut Off Dates:

New Brunswick - October 15th

Highland Park – October 1st

Edison – October 1st

North Brunswick –October 1st

(Please note that this information may change year to year; please make sure to contact your home district to verify these dates.)

If you submit a lottery application between October 7th – December 19th, 2016 a lottery number will be given to you. If you do not receive a lottery number by December 21st, 2016, it is your responsibility to contact ana.perez@greaterbrunswick.org or 732-448-1052 x104 immediately. Your child must have a lottery number in order to participate in the lottery.

A lottery will be held on January 9th, 2018 at 6:00 PM.

Families of incoming kindergarteners will be notified on the evening of the lottery if their child will be attending GBCS in the fall or if they have been placed on the waiting list for the 2018/19 school year. Anyone registering a child after the January lottery will be placed on the waiting list and notified if a spot has become available. If you wish to find out your position on the waiting list (for the 2018/2019 school year) and for any updates during the 2017/18 school year please visit our website www.greaterbrunswick.org and look for information under the Admission/Waitlist tab. You may also call the school at 732-448-1052.

Lottery Applications may be submitted in the following ways after attending an Open House:

     Step 1 – OPEN HOUSE

  • Open House / Information Sessions:

    We recommend interested families attend an information session before applying to our school. These sessions are designed to give you a better view of our school and share all of our accomplishments and our future goals. At the end of this session we will distribute our Lottery Application for you to submit*.

    *Please refer to “Step 2 – Lottery Application” tab to be inform of our enrollment session dates or other ways to submit your completed application along with the require documents; also please note that the only way to be part of our lottery is to obtain a lottery number.

    Step 2 – LOTTERY APPLICATION

     

    Lottery Application: (application may be obtained at our main office or by downloading a digital version on our website. We also distribute applications to the families after attending an Open House / Information session.)

Step 3 – ENROLLMENT SESSION

 

Enrollment Session / Registration Session:

At this time you will bring your completed Lottery Application and proof of address. After all of your documents have been verified we will process your application and assign a lottery number for your child, we will give you a receipt as your confirmation. This receipt can be used as a reference when looking up your child’s information on the waiting list.

Step 4 – LOTTERY

 

Lottery:

 

The random lottery selection for the September 2017-2018 school year will be held on January 10th at 6:00 PM. The results from this lottery will be available on our website no later than Feb. 1st. Please note that the lottery is open to the public and the same results from that evening will be reflected on our website.

 

You may check your child’s status on our website. Your child’s number on the waiting list will only be good for the school year for which you applied. If your child is not called within that school year, it’s your responsibility to resubmit a new application and a new lottery number will be given to your child. Also, please note that siblings have preference in the lottery and they are given priority to enter our school. If you’re applying for multiple children, make sure to indicate that on your application or notify us directly.

 

 *Please note that 2 random lottery selections will be held the night of the lottery. Families that live in one of our Founding Father District (New Brunswick, Edison or Highland Park) will be selected 1st. Everyone else will be selected that same night and placed in the order in which they come out following the FFD families.

 

 

Step 5 – WAITING LIST STATUS

 

Waiting List Status:

 

If your child is not called within the school year you applied for, it’s your responsibility to resubmit a new application. You will be given a new number to be part of a new lottery.

 

September 2017-2018 Waiting List

Last updated:

This waiting list is effective September 2016 – June 2017. Your child’s order in placement won’t remain the same if we don’t have a slot for them. A new application needs to be completed for the following school year September 2017/18.

 

 

 

Step 6 – WAITING LIST APPLICATION  

 

Waiting List Application:

*This application is to be placed on our waiting list and will be processed on a “first come, first serve basis.” The deadline for submitting a lottery application in order to participate in the January lottery is December 19th, 2016.

 

This application is to be completed if you wish to be part of our waiting list, because you are applying after the lottery.

  • In Person: You may bring your completed application and the 2 required documents after contacting our main office to make an appointment.

Step 7 – WELCOME TO GBCS:

  ENROLLMENT ACCEPTANCE

Enrollment Acceptance:

Once a vacancy becomes available we will contact you via phone*. Families have 24hrs to notify us of their decision, because we have a number of families eagerly waiting to receive notification of an available vacancy we can’t wait much longer. If you contact us after this time and are interested in waiting again, we will place your child at the end of the waiting list.

*Please assure that we have correct / update contact info for you and your family. If you need to add multiple number such as a family members number, spouse and so on, please make sure you do so. If at any time you need to update your information feel free to contact us.

Once you’ve accepted your slot, we will notify you of the Registration Application that we will need from you before attending GBCS. The documents we will need from you are as follow:

  • Updated Medical Physical ( done within a year )
  • Immunization Records ( up to date)
  • Transfer Card from Previous school( if your child was home schooled or in a private, you would need to register the child in your home district and obtain a transfer card to GBCS prior to their start date)

    *Without these 3 documents your child won’t be able to start at GBCS.
