Academic Programs

Math
The Into Math program for grades K-8 makes learning math fun and interactive with hands-on activities and real-world problems. This curricular resources supports our Dual Language program since it offers resources in both English and Spanish. Our math curriculum is designed to develop students' number sense, demonstrate behaviors of mathematicians, build confidence and strengthen their math skills.
Literacy/ Language Arts
The American Reading Company (ARC) program for grades K-8 offers a personalized, engaging approach to literacy, focusing on developing strong reading and writing skills through diverse, high-quality texts. The program is available in both English and Spanish and supports students of all levels and helps cultivate a love for reading. The ARC program also includes the IRLA and ENIL assessments, which help track student progress and tailor instruction to meet individual needs.
Additionally, students receive daily phonics instruction in both languages. In English we utilize Fundations, a phonics program by Wilson Language Training, that is a Structured Literacy approach and is aligned to the science of reading. In Spanish we utilize Estrellita, which provides multisensory instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics and fluency. These structured programs are specifically designed to teach young students decoding, reading and spelling.
Science and Social Studies
Science and Social Studies are interdisciplinary and our philosophy begins with the idea that children are makers of meaning through their interactions with the world around them. Teachers integrate concepts and skills from other academic areas within children experiential work with materials, content, and each other. GBCS fosters understanding of big ideas and helps students make connections between present, past and future.
Cultural Arts (Specials)
Students attend weekly special classes which include art, physical education, and music.
